Innovative Book Structures.

I love Hedi Kyle's book structures! They are fun to make and beautiful to look at. Hedi Kyle’s book structures are ingenious, innovative, and inspiring. They are absolutely intriguing and enjoyable to make. They can be modified in varied ways using ones own creative and artistic skills.

Photo transfer on handmade paper

This work was a result of an experiment that I did a while ago using photograph transfer technique on a paper sculpture made with abaca. I used DASS ART Super Sauce Concentrate to transfer the images. Even though the images were successfully transferred, I am not so happy with the overall result. Oh well! As they say no effort goes waste. Hopefully this technique will come handy someday.

Do you have a favorite photo transfer technique/method?

Embedding in paper

Pulp made with abaca fiber is very versatile. It lends its inherent translucent quality in making beautiful paper as well as making sculptures. It's a perfect fiber to use for embedding various materials.

I made these a while ago embedding jute ribbon, washers and cotton thread between two abaca sheets.

Commission Work

The color palette of my next commission work. It's going to be a 8'X4' shimmering & sparkling piece.

Pulp is pigmented with iridescent pigments. I am all set to make restraint dry and air dry paper samples.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Friends,

I want to let you know that I appreciate you every single day. I am thankful for your “likes,” encouraging and inspiring “comments," and support. I love creating and sharing my Papermaking journey with you.

May the good things of life be yours in abundance not only at Thanksgiving but throughout the coming year.

Love you all

Kozo

Kozo hand-dyed with Kakishibu. Love how each sheet resembles the drying leaves through the texture and the sound it creates.

Leftover Pulp

When working on several projects concurrently, I always end up with leftover pulp. I collect them throughout the week or two to have fun with it later. Played like a child with leftover abaca, cotton rag, cotton linter.

I am so happy my fridge in the studio is empty. I can now start a fresh batch of pulp.

Community Project Progess...

The community project is slowly taking shape. If you missed the previous post you can find it here. https://www.latagedala.com/blog/2020/11/15/papermaking-for-a-cause

The cards are getting ready. The images on the card are hand painted using watercolor. Aarav’s little sister(7yrs) is equally excited and providing support to her big brother in this project.

The handmade cards are sold for $5 each. With the money raised Aarav wants to share the joy of giving, with the residents of Etta Senior Living and support Southwest School of Art for their dedication and commitment to the community through the arts.

Papermaking for a cause!

My 13 year old son Aarav, is doing a community project. He chose handmade paper as his medium to do it. I am so proud of him! He is making handmade cards using cotton, abaca and kozo fibers to raise money. The project has started. More about the progress and organizations he wants to support in the next post.
